SAN ANGELO, Texas — For 13-year-old Emily Spooner, Saturday’s first Take Your Daughter to the Range Day was a chance to spend time with her father doing something he loves.
Sam Spooner said he has taken his son shooting and hunting but never thought to take his daughter.
Then he saw a flier at Goodfellow Air Force Base seeking female volunteers to act as shooting mentors for the event at the San Angelo Gun Club.
“It’s a great idea, just from a weapon safety standpoint, to not be afraid of it,” Spooner said. “They’ve got some ladies at the firing line from the base. That’s pretty neat.”
Emily, waiting in the shade of the registration area some yards from the firing line, said it looked like a lot of fun.
“I want to go hunting, but that won’t be for a long time,” she said…
